Stainless steel pipe production and manufacturing process

Stainless steel pipes are widely used in chemical, construction, petroleum and food industries for their excellent corrosion resistance, high strength and durable performance. Their complete manufacturing and processing flow includes standardized procedures from raw material selection to final quality inspection.

The whole production is divided into two mainstream types: welded and seamless pipes. Firstly, qualified stainless steel coils or solid steel billets are selected and inspected for chemical composition and surface quality. For welded pipes, steel strips are slit to fixed width, roll-formed into cylindrical shapes, and then sealed by high-precision TIG or high-frequency welding. For seamless pipes, heated solid billets undergo rotary piercing to form hollow tube blanks, followed by hot rolling and cold drawing for dimension shaping.

After forming, all pipes go through heat treatment like annealing to eliminate internal stress and improve toughness. Subsequent surface treatments include pickling, passivation and polishing to remove oxide scales and enhance anti-rust performance. Finally, precision sizing, fixed-length cutting and strict quality tests are conducted, including hydraulic pressure test, air tightness detection and dimensional calibration.

Only by strictly controlling every processing step can stainless steel pipes meet international industrial standards and stable application performance.
